The Ninoy Aquino International Airport or more popularly known as NAIA will be having a new new concessionaire, San Miguel Group (SMC Group).
The P170.6 billion concession agreement between the Philippine Government and the SMC Group , signed in March, allows San Miguel a 15-year term to operate, maintain and upgrade NAIA, with a 10-year extension option.
The San Miguel Group promises that passengers will experience a much improve airport experience once they’ve finished implementing their modernization plan for the international airport.
To fulfill the much needed modernization upgrades, San Miguel pledged to invest at least P88 billion in capital expenditure within the first six years, rising to P122.3 billion over the entire concession period.
The Department of Transportation is set to hand over NAIA’s operations and maintenance to the San Miguel Group by September 14, 2024.
But with the convenience comes the cost for passengers!!!!
Yes, as early as now, talks are already starting that NAIA TERMINAL FEES could increase once as early as 2025!!!
“Terminal fee will be increased… that will be in 2025. Actually, what we are looking at is P950,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista
Kailangan namang ma-compensate natin yung concessionaire doon sa investments nila. But with the investments that they will do, the charges that they will collect, mag-iimprove yung effiency ng airport from 32 million capacity ngayon, magiging 60 to 62 million. That would mean a more comfortable, better experience for the passengers,” he also said during the same press conference.
However, the terminal fee increase is still subject to a government committee pursuant to Administrative Order 1. .
The current NAIA Terminal Fee is at 200 Pesos for domestic flights and 550 Pesos for international travel!!
The last price increase of the NAIA Terminal Fee was done 24 years ago, on 2000!!!
